Kyiv, Jan 31 (EFE).- Ukraine’s military intelligence unit on Wednesday claimed responsibility for the cyberattack against Russia that on Tuesday took down a server used by Moscow’s defense ministry.
“On January 30, 2024, as a result of a cyberattack, the server of the Ministry of Defense of the aggressor state of Russia, which was used for special communication, was ‘disrupted’,” reads a statement issued by Kyiv’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR).
“The operation in the enemy’s cyberspace was carried out by specialists of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine,” it added.
According to the GUR, which published images of the cyber operation that it said was “ongoing,” the move “stopped” communications between the departments of the Russian Ministry of Defense that used the server.
Ukrainian hackers have attacked several Russian public and private targets in recent weeks. These attacks are, in part, a response to the cyberattack in December that left millions of users of Ukraine’s main mobile operator, Kyivstar, without service for several days. EFE
