Washington DC, Mar 25 (EFE).- Former President of the United States, Donald Trump (2017-2021), sought to discredit the justice system during a rally in Waco, Texas, ahead of a possible indictment in New York over the payment of hush money to the porn actress Stormy Daniels.
Addressing a crowd before the Waco Regional Airport, Trump claimed he was a target of a political “witch hunt,” while presenting himself as a victim of “weaponization” of the justice system.
“They have nothing (against me),” said the former president. “From the beginning it’s been one witch hunt and phony investigation after another.”
Without evidence, Trump accused justice department officials of “procedural misconduct” and trying to implicate him in different cases as a part of politically motivated efforts to hamper his 2024 presidential bid.
The investigation by the New York District Attorney’s Office, which has lasted almost five years, focuses on the alleged payment of $130,000 by the Trump team to Daniels during the 2016 election campaign to keep her from going public about an alleged sexual relationship they had in 2006.
The case is now in the hands of a grand jury, who must decide whether or not to charge the former president. If Trump is charged he will become the first former US president to face a criminal charge. EFE
