Two people were found dead at around 4:00 am local time on Ilkeston Road, a Nottingham police report said.

Officers were then called to another incident in Milton Street where a van had attempted to ram into three people who were injured and are currently being treated in hospital, the report continued.

Another man was also found dead on Magdala Road, police added.

“This is an horrific and tragic incident which has claimed the lives of three people,” Nottinghamshire Police Commissioner Kate Meynell said in a statement.

“We believe these three incidents are all linked and we have a man in custody. This investigation is at its early stages and a team of detectives is working to establish exactly what has happened,” Meynell added.

“We ask the public to be patient while inquiries continue. At this time, a number of roads in the city will remain closed as this investigation progresses,” the statement concluded.

The three incidents occurred in different locations across the city. The hit-and-run on Milton Street was by a busy shopping center in the historic center while the two bodies found on Ilkeston Road were in western Nottingham and the third corpse on Magdala Road was in the north.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak took to Twitter to thank the police and emergency services for their “ongoing response to the shocking incident.”

“I am being kept updated on developments. The police must be given the time to undertake their work,” Sunak added. “My thoughts are with those injured, and the family and loved ones of those who have lost their lives.” EFE
