Seoul, Jun 15 (EFE).- North Korea on Thursday launched two short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan – called the East Sea in the two Koreas -, according to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).
The launches were detected from the Sunan area in Pyongyang between 7:25pm. and 7.37pm, according to a statement by the JCS.
Seoul had initially reported launching a single unidentified ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan.
For their part, Japanese government sources cited by local media have indicated that the projectile or projectiles appear to have fallen within the Japanese Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) without any damage being reported for the time being.
This is Pyongyang’s first such projectile launch since April 13, when the regime first tested a intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) using solid-fuel, a type of propellant much more efficient than the liquid form.
On May 31, North Korea launched a space rocket with an onboard reconnaissance satellite that failed and crashed into the Yellow Sea.
The latest missile launch coincides with the conclusion of the large-scale live-fire joint exercises between Seoul and Washington on South Korean territory, which Pyongyang has severely criticized. EFE
