Macron confers Legion of Honor on India’s Modi and journalist killed in Ukraine

Paris, July 14 (EFE).- French President Emmanuel Macron has conferred different variants of the Legion of Honor on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French journalist Arman Soldin, who was killed in Ukraine in May in a Russian strike.

Modi accepted the decoration of the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor with “great humility” and insisted that this was “an honor for the 1.4 billion people of India,” according a tweet he shared after the Elysee announced the honor.

India is the guest nation this year at the military parade at the Bastille Day (Jul. 14), with three of its combat aircrafts and 240 soldiers set to participate in the parade at the Champs-Élysées avenue in Paris along with over 6,000 French soldiers and around 60 aircrafts of the host nation.

Soldin, killed on May 9 near the fiercely contested Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, was the video-coordinator of French news agency AFP in Ukraine.

He was named a Knight of the Legion of Honor posthumously, according the official gazette of the French Republic published on Friday.

The Legion of Honor decorations are announced every year on July 14 to different personalities for their services to France and the list includes dozens of people honored under the five categories. EFE
