Bangkok, Jul 30 (EFE).- At least nine people died and 115 have been injured – nine of them in serious condition – after an explosion in a fireworks warehouse in southern Thailand, officials said Sunday.

The incident occurred on Saturday at the warehouse in Muno market in Narathiwat province near the Malaysian border, a spokesperson from the local police station told EFE.

Those with severe injuries are being treated at hospitals in the area, while police continue to examine the site to find out the causes of the explosion and learn more about the victims and the families affected.
The authorities are yet to give an official version of the cause of the explosion, however local media reports claim it may have been caused by welding work being carried out inside the market.
The reports indicate that the explosion caused significant damage to the market and also affected at least 200 homes, which were charred or lost their roofs by the force of the shock wave. EFE
