Teacher attacked in South Korea in 2nd stabbing incident in less than a day

Seoul, Aug 4 (EFE).- A teacher at a high school in the South Korean city of Daejeon was stabbed on Friday by an unidentified man who was subsequently arrested, a day after 14 people were injured in another stabbing incident in the country, police said.

The suspect, believed to be in his 20s or 30s, stabbed the teacher at around 10:03 am and was arrested at 12:30 pm some 7 to 8 kilometers away from the school, the police added, local news agency Yonhap reported.

The teacher, who is in his 40s, was found unconscious and taken to a hospital.

No details about his condition have been released.

The suspect reportedly went to the teachers’ room to look for the teacher and after finding out that he was in class, waited until he came out and then stabbed him and fled, according to the police.

This is the second stabbing incident in South Korea in less than 24 hours after a man allegedly went on an indiscriminate stabbing spree near a shopping center next to Seohyeon subway station in the city of Seongnam, which is part of the capital’s metropolitan area.

A total of 14 people were injured in the attack, two of whom are critical.

Police arrested the alleged perpetrator of the attack as he tried to flee the crime scene.

Five pedestrians were also hit by a vehicle believed to have been used by the suspect.

A similar incident occurred on July 21 in the southeast of the capital, when a man began stabbing pedestrians in the middle of the street, leaving one dead and three wounded. EFE
