Washington, Aug 15 (EFE).- Former United States president Donald Trump said Tuesday that he is confident of being exonerated in the fourth criminal case against him for allegedly manipulating the 2020 election results in the state of Georgia.
“A Large, Complex, Detailed but Irrefutable REPORT on the Presidential Election Fraud which took place in Georgia is almost complete and will be presented by me at a major News Conference,” Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social.
The press conference will be held on Monday in Bedminster, New Jersey, the former US president added.
“Based on the results of this CONCLUSIVE Report, all charges should be dropped against me and others – There will be a complete EXONERATION! They never went after those that Rigged the Election. They only went after those that fought to find the RIGGERS!”, Trump said.
After more than two years of investigations led by prosecutor Fani Willis, a Georgia grand jury on Monday indicted the former president for attempting to manipulate the results of the 2020 election in that state, where Democrat Joe Biden won by a narrow margin.
According to the indictment, the former president faces 13 counts, including violating Georgia’s Corrupt Organizations Act, which, if upheld, would mean a prison sentence.
Among those indicted along with the former president are his former personal attorney and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and his former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.
After the news broke on Monday night, Trump said “the Witch Hunt continues” and called Willis “an out of control and very corrupt District Attorney who campaigned and raised money on, ‘I will get Trump.’”
In a statement, his campaign team said that all “Democratic attempts” to remove Trump from the campaign “will fail.”
Monday night’s indictment was the fourth against the former president. It comes after he was indicted two weeks ago by a Washington DC grand jury on four counts of allegedly trying to reverse the outcome of the US election.
In addition, Trump has been charged in New York with 34 counts for alleged “hush money” payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels, with whom he allegedly had an “affair” in the past, to buy her silence during the 2016 election campaign.
The other criminal case is in Florida, where he is charged with 40 counts for illegally removing and keeping classified documents that he took from the White House in his Mar-a-Lago mansion.
