Moscow, Sep 13 (EFE).- Two ships were damaged following a Ukrainian missile attack at a naval shipyard in Russian-annexed Crimea on Wednesday, Russia’s defense ministry said.
Ukraine carries out the attack on the shipyard in Sevastopol that builds and repairs ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
“Last night, the AFU fired ten cruise missiles at the ship repair plant named after S. Ordzhonikidze in Sevastopol and three uncrewed boats at a detachment of Black Sea Fleet ships on a sea crossing,” the ministry said.
“Air defense systems shot down seven cruise missiles. The patrol ship Vasily Bykov destroyed all the unmanned boats. Two ships under repair were damaged by the enemy cruise missiles,’ it added.
Hours earlier, the Russian-installed governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhaev, said that at least 24 people were injured in a blaze caused by the attack.
“Four of them are in a moderately severe condition.” the official wrote on Telegram.
“I’m at the fire site at the southern facility of the Sevastopol Shipyard. All emergency services are working in the area. There is no threat to the city’s civilian facilities,” he added.
The missile attack occurred around 3 am, Russian state agency Tass reported.
The Crimean peninsula and the Sevastopol port have been frequently targeted by Ukraine in recent months, either with aerial or naval drones, landing craft and missiles, according to reports by local authorities and the Russian defense ministry. EFE
