State prosecutor asks Harris to unseat Biden

Washington, Feb 13 (EFE).- West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, a Republican, on Tuesday asked United States Vice President Kamala Harris to invoke the 25th Amendment of the Constitution to remove Joe Biden, 81, from office, claiming the president is physically unable to perform the duties of the office.

Morrisey cited special prosecutor Robert Hur’s report with the conclusions of the investigation into Biden’s retention of classified documents from his time as Barack Obama’s vice president (2009-2017), describing the president as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

“President Biden’s cognitive decline is of great concern to Americans, especially during these times that our nation is facing crisis after crisis both here and abroad, We need a president who is mentally fit,” the West Virginia attorney general said.

For Morrisey, Hur’s report “paints a clear picture of a president who is not up for the job.”

As such, he urged Harris to invoke the amendment, which allows cabinet members to remove the president from office if they find him unable to fulfill the powers and duties of the office.

“The Twenty-Fifth Amendment was designed for times like these,” he noted in the letter, where he acknowledged that it was an “extreme measure” but urged Harris to “look beyond” her personal relationship with Biden and to evaluate the situation objectively.

In the event of a refusal, Morrisey asked Harris to leave the decision in the hands of the country’s attorney general, Merrick Garland.

The West Virginia attorney general is not the first to make such comments.

On Feb. 9, a group of Republican lawmakers also urged the use of this constitutional remedy.

“Merrick Garland has a duty to invoke the 25th Amendment to his fellow Cabinet members. Or prosecute Biden. If he won’t prosecute, then invoke the 25th now,” Senator Josh Hawley said on social network X, formerly Twitter.

The White House has responded to these claims by saying that the references to Biden’s cognitive state do not correspond to reality, and asking opponents to focus on the main conclusion of the report: that he did not intentionally take classified documents and that he did not share them. EFE
