Mexico City, Jun 2 (EFE).- Ruling party candidate Claudia Sheinbaum had achieved a wide lead of just over 60 percent of votes in Sunday’s presidential election, compared to the less than 30 percent won by her main rival, opposition leader Xochitl Galvez.
Sheinbaum’s National Regeneration Movement had an ample lead with 3 percent of the vote counted by the election commission as of 09:20 local time (03:20 GMT on Monday.)
According to this data, the Force and Heart for Mexico coalition candidate Xochitl Galvez, achieved just 28 percent of the votes. Her formation comprises the National Action Parties, Institutional Revolutionary Parties and the Democratic Revolution,
Citizen Movement candidate Jorge Alvarez Maynez has garnered 9.2 percent of the votes.
Sunday’s was Mexico’s largest election in history with more than 98 million people calling to renew more than 20,000 positions, including the presidency, 500 lawmakers, 128 senators and nine state governments.
These elections were also the most violent in the history of Mexico, with at least 30 candidates murdered. EFE
