Kyiv, Nov 20 (EFE).- The US and Spain embassies in Kyiv have decided to temporarily shut down after receiving “specific” information about a possible major airstrike on the city on Wednesday.
“The US Embassy in Kyiv has received specific information of a potential significant air attack on November 20. Out of an abundance of caution, the Embassy will be closed, and Embassy employees are being instructed to shelter in place,” the diplomatic mission said in a message for US citizens on its website.
“The US Embassy recommends US citizens be prepared to immediately shelter in the event an air alert is announced,” it added.
The embassy also urged US citizens in Ukraine to keep an eye on local media for updates, identify shelter locations, seek shelter immediately if an air alert was announced and follow the instructions of Ukrainian officials and services in case of an emergency.
The embassy’s message comes days after US President Joe Biden’s administration authorized Kiev to use ATACMS long-range missiles inside Russian territory, according to US media reports.
These missiles were used on Tuesday by the Ukrainian military, according to the Kremlin, which has accused the US of “adding fuel to the fire” in the conflict.
US media also claim that Biden, who will hand over power to Republican Donald Trump on Jan. 20, approved the provision of anti-personnel land mines to Ukraine. EFE
