British national arrested for stabbing attack on Doncaster to London train

London (EFE).- Authorities reported on Sunday that a 32-year-old British man was the only person arrested for the stabbing attack that occurred on Saturday night on a passenger train traveling between Doncaster and King’s Cross Station in north London.

The attack is one of the most serious incidents in the country in recent years and injured 10 people, one of whom is still in critical condition.

After several hours of uncertainty, British police ruled out an ideological motive, stating, «Nothing suggests this is a terrorist incident,» according to British Transport Police Superintendent John Loveless at a press conference at Huntingdon station in northern England, where the attack occurred.

Another Briton, aged 35, who had initially been arrested, was released on Sunday after proving he was not involved in the attack.

A LNER employee, the company that operated the train, is in critical condition after «heroically» trying to stop the attack. British police noted that his actions «saved many lives.»

Five of the 10 injured people have already been discharged from the hospital where they were treated.

The assaulter, who is now in custody, apparently attacked people at random aboard a train full of passengers traveling between Doncaster and King’s Cross station in northern London on a Saturday night.

It is important to note that the attacker is a British male in a country where anti-migrant rhetoric is growing and associated with cases of insecurity in similar incidents. On Oct. 27, for example, an Afghan refugee fatally stabbed a man walking a dog in west London.

Numerous knife attacks in recent years

Saturday’s attack caused alarm because it added to the numerous similar attacks in recent years.

The British news agency Press Association has recorded at least 10 stabbings since 2013 in different parts of the United Kingdom (excluding gang fights), of which at least eight were clearly terrorist attacks.

The Times highlighted that many asylum seekers abuse British legislation by claiming to be victims of «human trafficking,» which alone guarantees asylum. The media outlet assured that the new interior minister, Shabana Mahmood, plans to end this legal loophole. EFE
