Zelenskyy releases video ahead of World Cup final, blocked by Fifa

Lviv, Ukraine, Dec 18 (EFE).- Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, released a video on Sunday that he was hoping would be broadcast ahead of the World Cup final in Qatar, which was blocked by Fifa.

Zelenskyy’s presidential office lodged a request to share a message of peace ahead of the World Cup 2022 final between Argentina and France via video link with Fifa on Friday, but the governing body turned it down on the grounds it conflicted with political neutrality, Ukrinform, a Ukrainian news outlet reported.

“This World Cup proved time and again that different countries and nationalities can decide who is the strongest in fair play, but not in playing with fire,” the Ukrainian leader said in his message shared on Instagram.

“This is the dream of so many people! When players compete making everybody enjoy peace,” Zelensky continued in his address.

The president called for support to restore peace in Ukraine and in the address announced a Global Peace Formula Summit to be held this winter: “The summit to unite all nations of the world around the cause of global peace.”

“Let’s witness the final together – and the end of war,” Zelenskyy concludes.EFE
