A search was underway for the helicopter – carrying a pilot, co-pilot and technician – across an area stretching from Punta Rincón on the Caribbean coast to the northwestern city of Santiago, in Veraguas province.

The AW-139 helicopter was carrying out a “relief operation for the naval air stations located in the Caribbean” and “the last communication with the Panama Radio control station was at 11.30 am (16:00 GMT),” Senan said in a statement.

Some local media outlets reported that the helicopter was last observed over the mountainous area of La Yeguada, in Veraguas, about 250 kilometers from Panama City.

Senan said it has four aircraft deployed in the search for the helicopter and to “determine the condition of its crew.”

So far, no deaths or injuries have been reported. EFE
