Seoul, Jul 21 (EFE).- North Korea has sent more balloons filled with garbage to the South, the South Korean military said on Sunday.
The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said that the balloons appear to be traveling towards the northern part of Gyeonggi province, which surrounds Seoul, and advised citizens not to touch the downed balloons and report them to the army or the police.
Since May, Pyongyang has sent more than 2,000 balloons filled with garbage in response to the balloons with propaganda against the North Korean regime that activist groups regularly send from the South.
This, together with the Pyongyang regime’s attempts to interfere with the GPS system around the Korean peninsula, led Seoul on June 4 to suspend the treaty it had signed with the North in 2018 to reduce military tension in border areas.
The South Korean military also decided to reinstall its loudspeakers on the border and on June 9, it made its first broadcast of propaganda against the Pyongyang regime in more than eight years.
Relations between the two Koreas are at one of their lowest points, especially after the failure in 2019 of the dialogue on denuclearization between Pyongyang and Washington.
Since then, North Korea has declared the South its «principal enemy» and has chosen to strengthen relations with countries such as Russia. EFE
