Tehran, Sep 11 (EFE).- Iranian judicial authorities have charged popular actress Sahar Dolatshahi with violating «Islamic norms» after a scene from a series showed her allegedly dancing to music.
The scene, featuring Dolatshahi moving her head and shoulders to music, went viral on social media in recent days, drawing the attention of authorities, who have now announced charges against her.
“Following the publication of a part of a series on social media, judicial action has been taken against the series’ producer, actress Sahar Dolatshahi, and the platform responsible for distributing the series,” Iran’s Mizan news agency reported on Wednesday.
Authorities claimed that Dolatshahi’s acts in episode seven of the series Dariush were «contrary to Islamic norms.»
The legal action against Dolatshahi is not the only recent case involving an actress accused of anti-Islamic acts.
In late August, the authorities in Tehran charged filmmaker Rakhshan Bani-Etemad and her daughter, actress Baran Kosari, for attending a film premiere without wearing a hijab.
In a more severe incident in July, a 31-year-old woman was left paralyzed after being shot in the back by security forces, allegedly for driving without a veil.
Activists claimed she was targeted for not wearing the veil, though police said the incident was unrelated to hijab, and the officer involved has been arrested.
In recent months, Iran has intensified enforcement of the mandatory hijab, redeploying morality police in April who have been involved in violent arrests.
Authorities have also taken measures such as confiscating vehicles of women who fail to cover their hair.
However, despite the recent measures, many Iranian women continue to defy the mandatory hijab as an act of civil disobedience. EFE
