Ancelotti: Mbappé not the cause of Real Madrid’s slump

Madrid, Nov 30 (EFE).- Coach Carlo Ancelotti defended Kylian Mbappé after Anfield penalty miss, underscoring Real Madrid’s collective struggles and urging a return to simplicity to recover their form.

The Italian tactician stressed that the issue isn’t Mbappé but with the team as a whole.

“The problem with Mbappé is the problem we all have. We need to bring out our best version, not just his, but mine and the rest of the team’s,” Ancelotti told reporters.

As Real Madrid struggle through a rough patch, the focus is on the French star because of the missed penalty “Many have missed penalties. This is not an individual issue. It’s a collective one,” Ancelotti.

Ancelotti stressed that Mbappé, despite being new to the team, has already scored nine goals and contributed with assists. “He hasn’t sunk. He knows he needs to do better, but the dynamic of the team has improved. We’re missing key players, and patience is key.”

The coach said returning to basics was key, particularly in defense, to navigate through tough times. “When struggling, simplifying is the way out. For example, defend well. That’s something the team is improving on, which gives me confidence.”

On Mbappé’s eventual partnership with Vinícius Júnior, who is recovering from an injury, Ancelotti admitted uncertainty.

“Mbappé prefers playing inside, but Vinícius has shown he can be effective there too. Their positioning will depend on the match and may shift during games.”

Ancelotti praised young talent Raúl Asencio, who has impressed in recent outings. “He’s played three matches and deserved to start. He’s confident, focused, and well-positioned. He’ll compete for a spot when everyone is back.”

The coach also lauded Fede Valverde’s versatility, describing him as a “modern midfielder” capable of excelling in various roles.

However, he was curt about Brazilian forward Endrick’s limited role, simply stating, “If I think he’s ideal to win on Sunday, he will play.”

As Real Madrid prepares to face Getafe, Ancelotti remains focused on rebuilding the team’s form and collective spirit to regain momentum. EFE
