Bogotá (EFE).- The President of the United States Donald Trump made important moves this week in the US technology sector limiting Nvidias sales to China and calling for a CEO change in Intel for ties with the Asian giant.
Trump decided that Nvidia will not be permitted to sell its most valuable product, the Blackwell chip, to China for the time being. According to Trump, this chip is so advanced that it would take five years for anyone to imitate it.
Instead, he authorized the export of the H20 chip, a less powerful version, on the condition that the federal government will keep 15% of the sales revenue.
Trump even suggested that if he ever permits the sale of the Blackwell chip to China, he could demand a cut of between 30% and 50% of the tech company’s revenue, which is currently valued at around 4.47 trillion dollars.
The agreement, signed this week at the White House with Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, effectively makes the US a partial partner of the tech company in China.
Friend or foe
In addition, the President of the US went from asking for the resignation of Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan for «conflict of interest» to meeting with him to hold «interesting» conversations in less than a week.
Accompanied by key members of his cabinet, he promised they would work together on proposals for the tech company.
This plot twist was notable on Wall Street, where Intel shares rose 2% after the meeting, having fallen 3% days earlier due to Trump’s accusations regarding Tan’s investments in Chinese companies with alleged military ties. Add to this his time at Cadence Design Systems, a company that faced legal problems under his leadership.
Meanwhile, Tan remains focused on an ambitious restructuring of Intel to help it gain ground in the race for artificial intelligence dominance. The plan includes reducing the global workforce by 15%.EFE
