Paris, Mar 3 (EFE).- Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi has been formally charged with rape, French prosecutors told Efe on Friday.
The 24-year-old had been under investigation by prosecutors in Nanterre, a western suburb of Paris, after a 23-year-old woman filed a report with police, although she did not press charges.
Prosecutors confirmed the Madrid-born player had been formally charged on Thursday evening. He has been banned from contacting the alleged victim but was not held in custody.
Local media said the alleged victim made contact with Hakimi on social media on January 16.
Hakimi, who at the time was ruled out of playing football due to injury, then invited the woman to his property on February 25, local media reported.
The player’s lawyers have denied the accusations. EFE
