Sports Desk, Apr 20 (EFE).- Youssef En-Nesyri had a brace Thursday as Sevilla dominated Manchester United 3-0 in the second leg of their Europa League quarterfinal to prevail 5-2 on aggregate.
Despite having won the competition a record six times, Sevilla – 13th in LaLiga – were expected to struggle against the Red Devils, who now sit third in the Premier League.
But after a stunning comeback to secure a 2-2 draw in the first leg at Old Trafford, the Spanish side embarrassed United in Seville.
With only 38 percent possession, Sevilla managed six shots on target to just three for the visitors, making the most of some egregious errors at the back.
In the 8th minute, United defender Harry Maguire gave away the ball to Erik Lamela. His pass found En-Nesyri alone in front of goal and the hero of Morocco’s 2022 World Cup run beat David De Gea to put Sevilla up 3-2 in the tie.
Lucas Ocampos looked to have extended the lead in the 40th minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Just two minutes into the second half, however, Loic Bade knocked in an Ivan Rakitic corner to make it 2-0 (4-2) for Sevilla.
De Gea made a good save against Ocampos in the 52nd minute to keep United in the game, but his botched clearance in the 81st gifted a second goal to En-Nesyri.
The defeat shattered United’s dream of a treble. The Red Devils have already won the Carabao Cup and will spend the coming days preparing for an FA Cup semifinal.
Sevilla, meanwhile, now have the prospect of a trophy amid an otherwise dismal season.
To reach the final, they will have to get past Juventus, who drew 1-1 Thursday with Sporting Lisbon for a 2-1 aggregate triumph.
The other semifinal will feature Bayer Leverkusen against Jose Mourinho’s Roma.
