Sports Desk, Aug 19 (EFE).- Liverpool overcame a rocky start to beat Bournemouth 3-1 at Anfield on Sunday despite playing most of the second half with 10 men after new signing Alexis Mac Allister was sent off.
Bournemouth thought they had opened the scoring with less than two minutes on the clock when Jaidon Anthony rolled the ball in after a mix up between Liverpool goalkeeper Alison and Dominik Szoboszlai, but the flag was up against the Cherries’ player.
The visitors took the lead just moments later when another defensive error allowed Antoine Semenyo to fire in.
But Liverpool soon settled and were level thanks to Luis Diaz’s brilliant flick and volley, before Mohamed Salah scored from the rebound in the 36th minute after Neto had saved his penalty.
The home side continued their improved form in the second half, but then World Cup winner Mac Allister was sent off for a studs-up tackle just before the hour mark.
Bournemouth will surely have been fancying their chances of mounting a comeback, but within minutes Diogo Jota had added a third goal for Liverpool with a simple tap-in after Neto had parried Szoboszlai’s shot. EFE
