New York City, US, Sep 2 (EFE).- Spanish world no. 1 Carlos Alcaraz sealed his place in the round of 16 of the US Open after beating Daniel Evans on Saturday.

Alcaraz, the reigning champion at Flushing Meadows, took three hours and 11 minutes to beat the 26th seeded Briton 6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

The Spaniard, who struck several masterful shots that brought the New York fans to their feet – especially an impressive one in the fourth set -, will face Italian Matteo Arnaldi, who stunned British 16th seeded Cameron Norrie, in the next round.
World no. 3 Daniil Medvedev also booked a spot in the last 16 with a 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 victory against Argentinian Sebastián Báez.
The 2021 US Open champion, took two hours and 40 minutes to seal his win.
He will face 13th seeded Alex de Minaur, who comfortably beat Chilean Nicolas Jarry 6-1, 6-3-6-2.
In other third round matches, German world no. 12 Alexander Zverev defeated Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov 6-7, 7-6, 6-1, 6-1 and Jannik Sinner beat Stan Wawrinka 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Andrey Rublev also moved into the fourth round with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, 7-5 win against Arthur Rinderknech. EFE
