Daytime Russian drone strike kills 4 in central Ukraine

Kyiv, Apr 1 (EFE).- At least four people were killed in a daytime Russian drone attack in Ukraine’s central Cherkasy region on Wednesday, regional governor Igor Taburets said, in what authorities described as an unusual daylight strike on areas far from the frontline.

The fatalities occurred in the Zolotonosha district, Taburets wrote on Telegram, adding that the attack, carried out with a long-range drone, was still ongoing at the time of his statement.

He did not provide further details about the victims or the precise location of the strike.

Russia launched drone attacks on several regions deep in Ukraine’s rear on Wednesday, deviating from its typical pattern of nighttime bombardments.

Such daytime strikes remain rare, although Russia conducted a similar large-scale daylight attack on Mar. 24, deploying more than 500 drones in one of the biggest aerial assaults of the war.

That bombardment, which primarily targeted western Ukrainian regions and focused on energy infrastructure, killed three people, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Wednesday’s attack underscores Moscow’s continued use of long-range drones to strike areas far from active combat zones as the war enters another phase of sustained aerial pressure. EFE
