Tehran, May 3 (EFE).- Iran confirmed on Sunday that it had received the United States’ response to its proposal, delivered through Pakistan, and confirmed that it is analyzing the content before issuing an official response.
«The US’ position on Tehran’s proposal has reached Iran through Pakistan,» Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Ismail Bagaei declared to state television.
The diplomat explained that the US stance is under review and that Iran will present its response once the analysis is complete.
Bagaei emphasized that the Iranian proposal focuses exclusively on ending the war and reiterated that issues related to the nuclear program are not part of the plan.
«Iran’s plan is conditioned exclusively on the end of the war. At this stage, we are not holding nuclear negotiations,» he added.
Bagaei also rejected the idea that Iran has given the US a 30-day deadline to end the war.
«The 30-day deadline is to reach an agreement on how to implement the peace agreement,» he explained.
According to information released Saturday night by the Tasnim agency, Iran presented a 14-point plan through Pakistan focused on definitively ending the war.
The Iranian proposal includes guarantees against military aggression, the withdrawal of US forces from the region, lifting the naval blockade, releasing frozen Iranian assets, paying compensation, lifting sanctions, ending the war on all fronts (including Lebanon), and establishing a new mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz.
On Saturday night, US President Donald Trump said he would review the plan sent by Iran «soon,» although he anticipated that it would not be acceptable.
Hours later, media outlets affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed that Trump faced a limited choice: an «impossible» military operation or a «bad deal» with Iran.
Iran and the US held a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Apr. 11 and 12 but failed to reach an agreement to end the conflict. Since then, the two countries have not agreed to resume talks. However, both sides have continued to exchange messages. EFE
