Kyiv, June 5 (EFE).- Ukrainian UAVs have destroyed Russian infrastructure at the airport in the occupied city of Donetsk that Kremlin forces were using to launch Shahed kamikaze drones against Ukraine.
This was stated by the 1st Separate Centre of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces in a statement reported on Friday by local media, which described as «systematic» the attacks that have allowed the destruction of these infrastructures.
The operation has consisted of attacks on drone launch areas, vehicles for their transport and even military personnel.
Fuel depots, petrol stations, logistics points, technical equipment and ammunition stockpiles have also been hit, according to the statement.
The operation is part of the intensifying campaign of Ukrainian attacks on Russian military and logistical infrastructure in the occupied territories, which seeks to undermine the potential of the occupying army and cut off its supply routes.
The Donetsk airport hit in these attacks is a place of great symbolism for Ukrainians because of the bloody fighting that took place there in 2014 and 2015 between the Ukrainian army and the Kremlin-backed rebels, who declared a part of the Donetsk region independent 12 years ago.
Donetsk is the capital of the Ukrainian region of the same name and the most important city that Russia controls in Ukraine. EFE
