Iran launches missile attack on Israel, according to state media

Tehran, June 7 (EFE).- Iran launched several waves of missiles against Israel on Sunday in retaliation for the attacks on Lebanon, Iranian state television reported.

“All shelters across Israel opened. Iranian firing continues in response to Israeli aggression on Lebanon,” reported IRIB (the acronym for state television).

The official media outlet showed images of missiles flying across the sky in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah and people celebrating the new offensive in the streets.

It also informed that the Iranian armed forces declared that if Israel responds to Iranian attacks or does not stop its attacks on Lebanon, Iranian attacks will continue.

As the attack was underway, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi posted an image of the Iranian and Lebanese flags on his X account.

The Israeli military activated alerts in the north of the country after detecting missiles launched toward Israeli territory, and later said all missiles were intercepted.

sunday’s military offensive comes after Iran warned that if Israel’s attacks on Lebanon continued, the Islamic Republic would retaliate, as it considers the ceasefire reached with the United States on April 8 to include the Arab nation.

The Speaker of Parliament and Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf, stated this afternoon that Israel’s attacks on Lebanon make the bases of both countries legitimate targets.

»They neither abide by the ceasefire nor believe in dialogue, and through the naval blockade and violations of the agreements regarding Lebanon, they have shown that they only understand the language of force,» Ghalibaf said.

»The naval blockade against the Iranian nation and America’s green light today to the Zionist regime turn American and regime bases and assets in the region into legitimate targets. The hand of our armed forces is open, as always,» he added.

Shortly before, the spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Commission, Ebrahim Rezaei, warned that Iran would respond “firmly and harshly” to Israel’s attack on the Dahyeh neighborhood of Lebanon’s capital.

The bombing of Dahye is the first since Lebanon and Israel agreed on Wednesday to a ceasefire conditional on the cessation of attacks and the absence of Hezbollah, an Iranian ally that rejected the proposal and again called on local authorities to abandon the negotiations.

The attacks coincide with the arrival in Tehran of Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, to deliver a “special message” to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, regarding the stalled peace negotiations between Iran and the United States.

Tehran is demanding an end to the attacks on Lebanon as part of the negotiation process to reach an agreement that would end the war that began in February and allow for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil and gas trade. EFE
