US shoots down 2 Iranian drones in Strait of Hormuz

Miami, June 6 (EFE).- US forces shot down two Iranian drones near the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday after they were deemed a threat to international maritime traffic, US Central Command (Centcom) said, amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran.

“Earlier today, US forces in the Middle East shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones that threatened international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz,” Centcom said in a statement posted on social media.

“American forces remain postured and ready to continue defending against Iranian aggression.”

The incident follows a series of military confrontations in the region.

On Friday, US forces reportedly shot down four Iranian drones launched toward the Strait of Hormuz and carried out strikes against radar surveillance facilities, while Iran targeted U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.

The latest developments come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran following several incidents near the strategic waterway, through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.

Despite repeated military exchanges over the past three weeks, Washington has maintained that a ceasefire announced in April remains in effect.

US President Donald Trump told NBC News on Friday that Iran had not yet accepted a proposed agreement to end the conflict because its leaders are «strong» and «proud,» but argued that Tehran would ultimately have to negotiate with Washington. EFE
