Washington (EFE).- The United States President Donald Trump affirmed on Wednesday that he signed the agreement with Iran while at the Palace of Versailles, France, without providing further details about the signing.
«It’s signed (…) I signed it in Versailles,» the president responded when asked by the press about the signing of the memorandum of understanding with Iran.
Subsequently, his advisor, Dan Scavino, shared a video on X showing Trump signing the memorandum and later handing it to US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
“Just prior to this evenings dinner at Versailles in France, hosted by President @EmmanuelMacron—President @realDonaldTrump signed the Iran Memorandum of Understanding, once Secretary Rubio received it,” wrote Scavino.
Trump signed the document alongside his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, who reacted with applause to the signing, which was later sent to Tehran via email.
For its part, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had announced the electronic signing of the document and ruled out traveling to Zurich on Friday for an in-person signing, as had been initially anticipated.
The 14-point memorandum, reached after months of negotiations mediated by Pakistan, puts an end to the war initiated on February 28 with the US and Israeli offensive against the Islamic Republic. It also orders the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.
Both parties now have 60 days to negotiate a definitive agreement on the Iranian nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions. During this period, Iran will guarantee free transit through the Strait of Hormuz, and the United States will lift the naval blockade against Iranian ports within 30 days.
Likewise, as part of the final agreement, Washington would commit to lifting all sanctions against Iran, releasing frozen assets, and developing a 300 billion dollars reconstruction plan. EFE
