Berlin/Moscow, June 27 (EFE).- Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) reported on Saturday that it had carried out a new drone strike on an oil pumping station in the Russian town of Vtorovo.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the use of domestically developed Flamingo cruise missiles against a Russian arms factory in Volgograd, as Moscow reported casualties from the attacks and announced further territorial gains in eastern Ukraine.
The SBU said fighters from its Alfa special unit struck the production and control station in Vtorovo, in Russia’s Vladimir region, an energy facility that supplies fuel to Moscow.
«According to preliminary information, SBU drones hit technical facilities at the complex, triggering a detonation,» the agency said on Telegram.
The SBU described the site as «a key logistics hub for pumping light petroleum products to Russia’s export ports and domestic consumers.»
The facility is located about 200 kilometers east of Moscow.
The agency noted that it had previously targeted the Vtorovo installation on June 10, arguing that attacks on Russian energy infrastructure reduce resources available for the war and increase the economic cost of the Kremlin’s military campaign against Ukraine.
«The enemy must suffer the consequences of its aggression not only on the battlefield but also in its budget, logistics, and export revenues,» the SBU said.
Separately, Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian forces had used FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles overnight to strike the Titan-Barricady industrial complex in Volgograd, around 400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
«The FP-5 Flamingo missiles successfully hit the Titan-Barricady factory in Volgograd,» Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.
He described the facility as a major defense-industrial complex that manufactures artillery systems, missile launcher components, and other specialized military equipment used in Russia’s war against Ukraine, adding that the strike caused a fire at the site.
«Every Russian defense installation participating in the war against Ukraine is a legitimate target for our long-range sanctions,» Zelenskyy said, using Kyiv’s term for long-range strikes inside Russia.
Earlier, Ukrainian Defense Ministry adviser Serhii Sternenko had also reported that Flamingo missiles struck what he described as one of the key facilities of Russia’s military-industrial complex.
Russian authorities said the attacks caused casualties in Volgograd.
Regional governor Andrei Bocharov said production facilities belonging to an unspecified company were damaged and that the resulting fire had been extinguished.
He initially reported 10 injuries but later said 11 people had been hospitalized and that the body of an employee had been found during cleanup operations.
«I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,» Bocharov said.
The Russian Defense Ministry said its air defenses intercepted 175 Ukrainian drones overnight, including several over the Moscow region.
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy accused Russia of intensifying its aerial campaign against Ukraine, saying Moscow had launched nearly 1,400 attack drones, almost 1,500 guided aerial bombs, and 19 missiles of various types, including ballistic missiles, over the past week.
«The Russians attack civilians, ordinary homes, and our civilian infrastructure,» he wrote on Telegram.
He said 15 Ukrainian regions had come under attack during the week, with Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Sumy facing almost daily bombardments.
According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, a Russian overnight attack on the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia injured nine people, including two children.
Zelenskyy called for strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses, particularly against ballistic missiles, expanding cooperation on drone technology, and increasing sanctions on Russia and its allies.
«Strong and operational measures are needed to force Russia toward ending this war,» he said.
On the battlefield, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced the capture of the village of Novoakeliuvate in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region.
According to the ministry, the settlement lies on the left bank of the Haichur River near a highway and railway, and its capture will enable Russia’s Eastern military group to advance more rapidly in the region.
Russian forces have been gradually expanding their control in the area for several months. Earlier this week, Moscow also claimed the capture of the village of Ivolzhanske in Ukraine’s Sumy region.
