Jerusalem, July 12 (EFE).- At least five people, including an 8-year-old girl, were killed on Sunday in separate Israeli military attacks across the Gaza Strip, according to hospital officials, while two other Palestinians died from wounds sustained in earlier Israeli strikes.
Earlier in the afternoon, several Israeli drone strikes hit the western Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City, killing at least four people, according to Al Shifa and Al Quds hospitals. The two medical centers also reported receiving nine wounded people.
According to the Palestinian Red Crescent, the strikes targeted a vehicle repair workshop in Gaza City.
Earlier on Sunday, an 8-year-old girl died from injuries she sustained after Israeli army gunfire struck the Al Nur wal Huda refugee camp, east of Bureij in central Gaza.
The camp lies close to Israeli military positions inside Gaza near an area Palestinians refer to as the «yellow line.»
Areas beyond that boundary, further delimited by what is known as the «orange line,» are frequently the scene of Israeli gunfire, according to local residents.
Contacted by EFE, the Israeli military had not commented on the shooting.
Local sources described the incident as involving «automatic fire,» referring to remotely operated weapons mounted along the perimeter near the «yellow line.»
Some Palestinian media have reported that such systems use artificial intelligence, although the Israeli military has previously denied using this type of weapon when asked by EFE.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), about 21,300 children have been killed in Gaza since the start of Israel’s military campaign in October 2023.
Separately, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported the death of Mahmoud Musleh, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an Israeli strike on Bureij two days earlier.
Sunday’s casualty report, compiled by Gaza-based journalists using information from local morgues, also recorded another death from injuries sustained in an earlier attack in southern Gaza.
According to Palestinian authorities, the death toll in Gaza has surpassed 73,200 since Israel launched its military offensive following the Hamas-led attack of Oct. 7, 2023, which Israeli authorities say killed about 1,200 people and resulted in the abduction of 251 others. EFE
