Damascus (EFE).- According to Syrian state television Al Ekhbariya and the official news agency SANA, at least two people were killed, and seven others injured on Thursday when a bomb exploded inside a minibus in Jaramana, on the outskirts of Damascus.
Syrian Civil Defense sources cited by Al Ekhbariya reported that at least two people were killed in the explosion, while the Syrian Ministry of Health’s Directorate of Ambulances and Emergency Services told SANA that seven people were injured with varying degrees of severity.
The official agency added that forensic teams are handling the remains of other victims.
SANA also noted that emergency services in the area are on high alert and that medical teams have been dispatched to the explosion site to provide a rapid response and immediately transport the injured to the nearest hospitals.
Syrian authorities have not yet disclosed whether this was a terrorist attack, and no group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
In early July, one person was killed, and 36 others were injured in two explosions in downtown Damascus during a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron. According to the Syrian Ministry of the Interior, the explosions were carried out by individuals linked to the Islamic State group.
As part of the campaign launched by the new Syrian authorities against IS cells following the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad in Dec. 2024, three suspects were arrested.
In August, the Syrian Interior Ministry reported that it had arrested 235 suspected IS members and thwarted seven planned attacks over three months, dismantling cells in the provinces of Hama, Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor, Homs, and Damascus.
The attack in the Syrian capital occurred a week after an explosion near the Palace of Justice left 10 people dead.EFE
