Madonna: Recording with daughter Lourdes was ‘healing’

London, June 27 (EFE).- Madonna has described recording a song with her eldest daughter, Lourdes ‘Lola’ Leon, for her upcoming album as «a very healing experience,» saying the collaboration allowed them to express long-held feelings openly.

Speaking in the BBC special Madonna & Graham, the singer told host Graham Norton that Leon, who performs under the name Lolahol, has worked hard to establish her own identity rather than be seen as benefiting from her mother’s fame.

“She’s been very reticent to work with me. She doesn’t want to be perceived as my daughter taking advantage of her privilege,» Madonna said, adding that she deeply respects her daughter’s determination to forge her own career.

The singer praised Leon’s talent, describing her as «a great songwriter» with «a much better voice than mine.»

Madonna also revealed that her daughter had struggled for years with feelings of resentment over growing up in the spotlight.

«Because at the end of the day she didn’t ask for this (life). She had been through her adolescence struggling with those feelings for a long time. Then she came to me and she said, ‘Let’s write a song together, I think it’ll be a very healing experience.’

«I was like, ‘OK, you’re on. Let’s do it’.»

In addition to the duet with Leon, Madonna said her upcoming album, “Confessions II,” due for release on July 3, includes a song dedicated to her late brother and longtime artistic collaborator, Christopher, which she wrote while he was seriously ill with cancer after a period of estrangement.

«It’s cathartic,» she said of the song. «To let go of somebody you love, the best way to do it is to write about it. It’s like an exorcism,” she said.

Madonna described “Confessions II” as a «danceable» and «very confessional» follow-up to her 2005 album “Confessions on a Dance Floor,” which won a Grammy Award.

She also hinted during the interview that the album would feature a collaboration with Kylie Minogue and suggested she could headline the Glastonbury Festival for the first time in 2027. EFE
