French Open 2026: Prize money hits record €61.7 million

Paris, Apr 16 (EFE).- Roland Garros will increase prize money by 9.5 percent for its next edition to 61.7 million euros, with singles champions set to receive 2.8 euros million each, tournament organizers announced Thursday.

“The total prize money for this year’s Roland-Garros comes to 61.723 million euros, up 9.53% compared with last year,” the organizers said in a statement.

“The tournament has decided to continue supporting the qualifying rounds, to help the players who need it most to finance their season and maintain their structure.”

Tournament director Amélie Mauresmo said the increase will particularly benefit players eliminated in early rounds, where prize money will rise by 11.11 percent, as well as parallel competitions such as wheelchair events, which will see a 14.55 percent increase.

“The tournament also wanted to offer more prize money for all the other rounds of the main draw, with an increase of between 6.82 and 9.80 percent compared with 2025.”

As for the prize money for the doubles events (women’s, men’s and mixed), it has increased by 3.90 percent compared to last year.

The prize money allocated to this year’s wheelchair and quad tennis competitions comes to 1,018,500 euros, which represents a 14.55 percent increase.

Players reaching the main draw will earn 87,000 euros, 24,000 euros more than last year.

Advancing to the second round will bring 130,000 euros, rising to 187,000 euros for reaching the third round.

Round-of-16 participants will receive 285,000 eurps, quarterfinalists 470,000 euros, and semifinalists 750,000 euros, while finalists will earn double that amount.

With the increase, Roland Garros now awards more to winners than the Australian Open, which offers 2.5 million euros, but remains behind Wimbledon (3.4 million euros) and the US Open (4.3 million euros). EFE
