Djokovic leaves Roland Garros after third-round loss, unsure about next year

​Paris, May 29 (EFE).- Novak Djokovic, 39, ranked fourth, lost at Roland Garros on Friday against Joao Fonseca, 19, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, and 7-5, amid sweltering heat and after a 4-hour, 53-minute battle.

Speaking to the press less than half an hour after he walked off the court, Djokovic answered “I don’t know” to reporters asking whether this was his last Roland Garros or if he is planning to come back next year.

​The Serbian hadn’t been eliminated this early at Roland Garros since 2009, and this is the first time he has lost to a player under 20 in a Grand Slam.

​Nevertheless, he praised the Brazilian after the game, saying, “What an incredible match to be part of (…) Huge credit to Joao for really deserving to win the match. Without a doubt, he was the better player in crucial moments.» EFE
