Kabul, Aug 13 (EFE).- Three people – two children and a woman – were killed in a clash between the Taliban forces and the Pakistan border forces, the de facto Afghan government said Tuesday.
The incident occurred Monday at the Torkham border area in Nangarhar province.
The Interior Ministry of the Taliban government said the fighting was initiated by the Pakistani border forces, prompting a response from the Afghan forces.
“In the Durand line area, the Pakistani border forces started firing on Afghan border forces that compelled the Afghan forces to return fire, causing the clash,” Interior Ministry spokesperson Mufti Abdul Mateen Qani posted on social media platform X.
According to the spokesperson, during the clash, “the Pakistan side targeted civilian residential areas” that led to the deaths of a woman and two children.
The ministry’s statement added that two Pakistani checkpoints on the Durand Line – the name given to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, not recognized by Kabul – were also destroyed as a result of the confrontation.
“Our forces under any conditions are ready to defend the territory and will respond to every illegal action,” Qani added.
The clash came as Taliban chief spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the Afghan government would investigate alleged maneuvers by Pakistani fighters on Afghan territory. EFE
