New Delhi/Kathmandu, Aug 23 (EFE).— At least 27 Indian tourists were killed after a bus carrying 43 passengers plunged into a river in Nepal on Friday, officials said.
Police officer Gyanu Thapa told Efe that 16 injured from the crash were receiving treatment in two hospitals in Kathmandu.

Thapa said 43 people were on the bus travelling to Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, from Pokhara, a popular tourist destination.
The bus, registered in Uttar Pradesh, partially sank in the Masyangdi River in the central Tanahun district.
According to Nepal Police, the bus belonging to Keservani Transport Travels in India entered Nepal from Gorakhpur in India’s Uttar Pradesh on August 20 from the Belahiya checkpoint.

Road crash fatalities and injuries are growing problems in Nepal.
Poor road conditions, vehicle maintenance issues, overcrowding, and reckless driving are common causes of road accidents in Nepal, which has one of the highest road accident mortality rates in the world.
In July, 71 people were killed when two buses were swept away by a landslide after heavy rains on a road southwest of Kathmandu. EFE
