London, Nov 8 (EFE) – The first artwork created by a humanoid robot artist with artificial intelligence (AI) was sold at auction on Thursday, fetching $1.32 million.

The artwork, a 2.2-metre portrait of British mathematician and computer pioneer Alain Turing entitled A.I. God was sold at Sotheby’s London to an anonymous buyer after 27 bids.

«Today’s record-breaking sale price for the first artwork by a humanoid robot artist to go up for auction marks a moment in the history of modern and contemporary art and reflects the growing intersection between AI technology and the global art market,” the auction house said in a statement.
The robot, which looks like a young woman with short black hair and casually dressed, and is known as Ai-DA, created a series of 15 paintings in just eight hours, but only one was auctioned.
Turing played a crucial role in the Allied victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, helping to break codes and decipher the German Enigma machine.
“This auction is an important moment for the visual arts, where Ai-Da’s artwork brings focus on artworld and societal changes, as we grapple with the rising age of AI,» said Aidan Meller, modern art specialist and project leader of Ai-DA robot. EFE
