Washington, US (EFE).- The US Department of War announced Thursday the destruction of another vessel it claims was linked to drug trafficking and the deaths of its three crew members.
The deaths bringing the total number of people killed in these US operations in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific to 69.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced the attack on social media and said that the boat was «trafficking narcotics in the Caribbean and was struck in international waters.»
Three men on board were killed, he said, adding a warning: «If you keep trafficking deadly drugs—we will kill you.»
Hegseth accompanied his post with a silent black and white video of the attack. He also emphasized that the attack was ordered by President Donald Trump, as he has stated in all past incidents.
With this latest strike, the number of boats destroyed has risen to more than 20, and at least 69 people have been killed.
Details about most of their identities remain unknown, and the government has not provided evidence those killed are linked to drug trafficking. At least one family has claimed its loved ones killed were fishermen.
On Thursday, a Democratic initiative in the Senate to block any potential military campaign in Venezuela without congressional approval failed, 49 votes to 51. EFE
