New Delhi (EFE).- At least eight people were killed and several others injured in an explosion Monday evening in central Delhi, near the Red Fort, prompting the authorities to launch an investigation.
The explosion took place around 7pm local time in front of the Red Fort, in one of the most touristic areas in the Indian capital.
The medical superintendent of the Lok Nayak Hospital told ANI news agency that 15 people were brought to the hospital and eight of them died on the way, while three were seriously injured.

The reason for the explosion remains unknown so far, although security has been beefed in sensitive areas of the region.
No member of the Indian government has given any statement about the explosion, although local media has reported that Home Minister Amit Shah is monitoring the situation.
New Delhi often receives false bomb threats against schools, airplanes, hospitals and other infrastructure and institutions that cause chaos and disrupt the functioning of services in the capital.

On Oct. 20, 2024 an explosion occurred in the vicinity of a secondary school in New Delhi without any casualties, but causing material damage in the area. EFE
