Trump to secure demilitarization deal with Hamas in Gaza

Washington, Jan 15 (EFE).- President Donald Trump said Thursday that the second phase of his Gaza peace plan is already underway and that it will result in a “comprehensive demilitarization agreement with Hamas, including the surrender of all weapons and the dismantling of all tunnels” in the territory.

“As Steve Witkoff announced — Trump’s special envoy for Gaza and Ukraine — we have officially entered the next phase of the 20-point Peace Plan for Gaza,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.

Trump added that since the ceasefire, his team has helped deliver record levels of humanitarian aid into Gaza, reaching civilians “at historic speed and scale.”

He said that, in his role as chairman of the Peace Board, he is backing the newly appointed Palestinian Technocratic Government, known as the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, which will govern the enclave during a transitional period.

On Wednesday, Trump administration officials said additional details about the second phase of the Gaza peace plan will be announced next week at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where the U.S. president is scheduled to speak.

They also said more information will be released within two weeks about the countries that will make up the International Stabilization Force, a U.N. contingent tasked under Trump’s plan with guaranteeing Gaza’s future security and demilitarization.

Earlier this week, Witkoff announced the launch of the plan’s second phase, which contemplates the demilitarization of the Palestinian territory and the establishment of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, without any role for Hamas. EFE
