Frankfurt, Germany, June 30 (EFE).- England survived a scare to make a late comeback and defeat Slovakia 2-1 in the Euro 2024 in the Round of 16 match in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday.

It had been another disappointing performance from the pre-tournament favorites, who were headed for an embarrassing exit until Jude Bellingham struck a stunning overhead kick to give England a stoppage time equalizer.
Harry Kane completed the comeback minutes into extra time when he headed in after a shot had deflected to him in the box.

Slovakia’s Ivan Schranz had opened the scoring on 24 minutes after David Strelec had played him in following sloppy defending from England’s center backs.

While England had slightly improved compared to their previous performances in this tournament, they again struggled to create many openings during the first half despite having plenty of the ball.

England thought they had equalized moments after the half time break, but Phil Foden’s tap in was chalked off because he was offside.

The second-half was a mirror of the first, with England having plenty of possession but lacking threat and urgency.

As time wore on, Harry Kane missed a glaring chance but he headed wide from only six yards out, before Declan Rice whipped a long-range shot against the post.

England will face Switzerland in the quarterfinal, but will need to produce a more accomplished performance to stand any chance of making the last four. EFE
