Frankfurt, Germany, June 30 (EFE).- Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams were the stars as Spain survived an early scare to run out comfortable 4-1 winners against Georgia to qualify for the Euro 2024 quarterfinals.
After Spain utterly dominated the first 15 minutes in Cologne, Georgia took a shock lead when Robin Le Normand scored a clumsy own goal at the end of a rapid counter attack.
But La Roja continued to press, and Rodri eventually fired a left footed shot into the corner from the edge of the box to equalize.
The Iberians deservedly took the lead after 50 minutes when youngster Yamal curled a perfect cross to the back post, where Fabian Ruiz nodded in.
Georgia were struggling to hold on as Spain were rampant; they had several chances to add a third goal before Williams did just that when he ghosted past his man to fire into the roof of the net with 15 minutes left.
Dani Olmo then got in on the goal feast after 82 minutes with a brilliant first touch and shot with his left foot.
While Spain move on to face hosts Germany in the last eight, Georgia exit having delivered one of the feel-good stories of the competition. EFE
