Kyiv, Sep 11 (EFE).– US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday for meetings with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other Ukrainian leaders, including newly appointed Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga.
Their visit comes as Ukraine continues to push for permission to use long-range missiles from its key allies to strike military targets in Russia, a request that remains under debate.
This marks the first joint visit by the top US and British diplomats to Ukraine since the war began, and it is also Lammy’s first visit to Ukraine since assuming office in July.
Prior to their trip, a group of 17 US military officials, diplomats, and other representatives urged the two leaders to remove restrictions that prevent Ukraine from using long-range weapons supplied by Washington and London to hit military targets inside Russia.
The visit coincides with the fourth summit of the International Crimea Platform in Kyiv, an initiative led by the Ukrainian presidency to unify efforts aimed at reclaiming the peninsula, currently under Russian occupation.
Meanwhile, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa also arrived in the Ukrainian capital on Wednesday. EFE mg-ssk
