Jerusalem, Sep 12 (EFE).- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that six of its employees were killed in two Israeli airstrikes against a school in Nuseirat in central Gaza.
A total of 18 Palestinians were killed in the attack, according to the enclave’s government, controlled by Islamist group Hamas.
«This is the highest death toll among our staff in a single incident,» UNRWA said on X late Wednesday.

«Among those killed was the manager of the UNRWA shelter and other team members providing assistance to displaced people,» it added.
The UN agency said that there were some 12,000 displaced people in the Al-Jaouni school, mainly women and children.
«What’s happening in Gaza is totally unacceptable. A school turned shelter for around 12,000 people was hit by Israeli airstrikes again today,» UN Secretary General António Guterres said in a post on X.
«These dramatic violations of international humanitarian law need to stop now,» he urged.

On Wednesday morning, the Israeli military said that it had attacked an alleged Hamas command and control center embedded in this school in this area of Nuseirat.
According to UNRWA, the Al-Jaouni school has been attacked five times since the start of the war in Gaza in October, causing the death of some 40 people.
The last attack occurred on July 6, killing 16 Palestinians and wounding 50 others.
«Schools and other civilian infrastructure must be protected at all times, they are not a target. We call on all parties to the conflict to never use schools or the areas around them for military or fighting purposes,» UNRWA said. EFE
