Moscow (EFE).- The President of Russia Vladimir Putin confirmed Friday that he received the peace plan for Ukraine elaborated by the United States and stated that the document could serve as the basis for a definitive peace settlement.
«We have this text. We received it through existing communication channels with the American administration,» Putin said at the beginning of a teleconference with the Russian Security Council.
Putin assured that the new 28-point plan is an «updated» version of an initiative by US President Donald Trump and that the leaders of Russia and the US had discussed it before their meeting in Alaska in August.
«President Trump’s peace plan to resolve the situation in Ukraine was discussed before the meeting in Alaska. During this preliminary discussion, the American side asked us to make certain concessions and, as they said, to show flexibility,» the Russian leader noted.
He added that, during his meeting with Trump in Anchorage on Aug. 15, the Russian side confirmed that, despite difficulties and inconveniences, Moscow is prepared to show the required flexibility.
Russia subsequently informed all its partners and friends about these conversations, and «all supported the possible agreements,» Putin said.
However, after Alaska, negotiations with the US paused, which, according to the Kremlin chief, was due to Kyiv’s refusal to accept Trump’s proposals.
«We know that this is due to Ukraine’s de facto rejection of the peace plan proposed by President Trump. I consider that is precisely why the new version, an updated 28-point plan, was published,» Putin said.
At the same time, Ukraine rejected the new version as well, said Putin, who stated that Kyiv and its European allies still want to achieve a strategic defeat of Russia.
«This position is most likely related to the lack of objective information about the real situation on the battlefield,» he assured. He recalled the recent Russian territorial conquests, including the city of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region.
Putin warned that if the Ukrainian authorities persist in rejecting Trump’s proposals, they will see «the events in Kupyansk repeat themselves inevitably in other key areas of the front.»
Nevertheless, the Russian leader insisted that the new Trump plan requires an «exhaustive analysis.»
«As I have repeatedly said, we are ready to engage in dialogue and peacefully resolve problems. It requires an exhaustive analysis of all the details of the plan proposed by the US. We are prepared for that,» he stressed.
Hours earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that continuing the war «lacks sense» and is «dangerous» for his government. Peskov called on Kyiv to negotiate a peaceful settlement «right now.» EFE
