The crew members ended their protest after two days following a conciliation process on Thursday evening, the Indian Labor Commission (CLC), a government body that oversees the implementation of labor laws, said on Friday.

As a result of the agreement, authorities have also agreed to reinstate some 20 employees who had been fired due to the strike.

“The management agreed to reinstate 25 cabin crew who have been terminated on 07th and 08th May 2024 for reporting sick,” CLC,said in a letter made public with the signatures of those involved.

According to local channel NDTV, the low-cost airline terminated the employment of at least 30 of its crew members amid negotiations by the management.

The CLC’s letter suggested that another meeting would be held on May 28 to discuss employee concerns about subsidies and alleged discrimination.

More than a 100 domestic and international flights were affected between Wednesday and Thursday due to crew members calling in for a mass sick leave.

The crew members alleged a lack of equality in their treatment after the Indian airline was acquired by the Tata Group.

In 2022, the powerful conglomerate regained control of the indebted Air India, 69 years after it was nationalized, for a reported sum of about $2.4 billion.

The incident came a month after Vistara, a partner airline of Air India, suffered multiple cancellations due to a lack of pilots. EFE
