Kevin Spacey’s trial for sexual abuse begins in London

London, Jun 28 (EFE).- The trial against American actor Kevin Spacey, accused of 12 counts of sexual assault, kicked off on Wednesday at the Old Bailey criminal court in London.

The 63-year old Oscar-winning actor arrived at the court in a taxi and greeted journalists and people gathered at the gates of the court before the start of a four-week trial.

Spacey has pleaded not guilty to the 12 charges that include sexual assault, indecent assault and causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent that allegedly took place between 2001 and 2013.

According to the British Public Prosecutor’s Office in May 2022, the actor is accused of five acts of aggression allegedly committed between 2005 and 2013 – four of them in London and one in Gloucestershire (west of England) – in which the aggrieved were a man now in his 40s and two other men who are now in their 30s.

In November last year, the prosecutor’s office added seven additional charges against the actor, which included sexual assaults against a man between 2001 and 2004.

The actor, known for his work in the “House of Cards” television series and iconic movies such as “American Beauty” and “The Usual Suspects,” divides his time between London, where he has a house in the southern neighborhood of Waterloo, and the United States, where his family resides.

During a preliminary hearing in the Westminster Magistrates’ Court in June, Spacey’s lawyer Patrick Gibbs said his client pleaded not guilty on all the charges against him, and had returned to London to prove his innocence. EFE
