On Thursday, Ukrainian authorities said the pre-dawn attack left at least four civilians dead when a barrage of Russian rockets hit Lviv in the most “destructive attack” on the western city since Russia invaded Ukraine.

The authorities said 10 Kalibr missiles, seven of which were intercepted, damaged 35 buildings in the city,

Russia launched the missiles from Black Sea submarines and aircraft carriers, triggering carnage and damaging educational institutions, dormitories of a Lviv polytechnic, and a large office center.

The affected area is near the city center, a Unesco heritage site.

The missile attack that rocked Lviv, some 1,000 kilometers from the frontline, became the latest in a series of strikes against relatively less protected Ukrainian cities.

Meanwhile, two civilians were killed in the Dnipropetrovsk region, on the banks of the Dnieper River, when Russia launched at least six Shahed kamikaze drones.

Ukrainian authorities claimed to have intercepted the drones, but the debris fell on the car the two civilians were travelling in.

“At night, the enemy attacked the region with Shaheds. Six drones were shot down by the defenses,” Dnipropetrovsk military head Serhiy Lisak wrote on his Telegram account.

According to the Ukrainian air force, its air defenses shot down 12 Shahed drones launched by Russia on Ukraine last night. EFE
