Gaza war toll surpasses 30,500

Jerusalem, Mar 4 (EFE).- The Gaza war toll has surpassed 30,500, with at least 124 people killed in the latest Israeli strikes over the past day, health officials in the besieged Palestinian enclave said on Monday.

The health ministry, under Hamas control, stated that the Israeli Army has claimed the lives of 30,534 Gazans during the 150 days of war, with a majority being civilian women and children.

“Several victims remain under the rubble and on the roads, and the occupation (Israeli military) prevents ambulances and civil protection teams from reaching them,” the ministry said.

The ministry estimated that more than 7,000 bodies remain buried under the rubble of buildings destroyed by Israeli bombings.

The official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, reported that 12 people, including children, were killed in airstrikes in Rafah, the southernmost area of the enclave, where 1.4 million displaced Gazans live under constant fear of an impending Israeli ground offensive.

The health ministry reported two attacks against civilians awaiting humanitarian aid, one in Gaza City, described as “another horrific massacre” resulting in dozens of deaths, and another in Deir al-Balah, where at least five people lost their lives on Sunday.

Wafa said Israeli air force bombings on four houses in the Zaytun neighborhood of Gaza City killed and injured several people.

The Israeli army on Sunday announced the conclusion of its two-week operation in the southern area, where it claims to have eliminated more than 100 alleged Islamist fighters and destroyed approximately 30 “terrorist targets.”

Wafa said Israeli troops fired artillery shells at homes in the Sabra, Rimal, and Janobi neighborhoods, “causing casualties among civilians, including children and women.”

Two houses in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza Strip, also came under artillery fire, injuring several citizens who were taken to Kamal Adwan hospital.

Fifteen babies have died from malnutrition and dehydration in the hospital in the past week.

The Palestinian news agency reported airstrikes on the Nuseirat and Bureij refugee camps and in the city of Deir al-Balah, in the center of the strip, killing two people and injuring dozens. EFE
